Gage Hecht Wins 2019 US Cyclocross National Championships

Gage Hecht, of the FSA/Vision sponsored Donnelly-Aevolo cycling team, outperformed the men’s elite field and secured victory in the 2019 US Cyclocross National Championship race. This year’s edition was held at Steilacoom Park in Lakewood, Washington this past weekend on Sunday December 14th. The racers competed in classic wintery cyclocross conditions that saw freezing rain soak the course throughout the week, turning the race into a mud-fest quagmire. Come Sunday, the sun broke through the clouds and shone on Gage as he held off a hard charging field, which included 2-time winner Stephen Hyde, to a solo victory by 17 seconds over the 2nd placed rider.

The course was unique in the fact that it had no man-made barriers, but featured three steep run ups, forcing riders to dismount and shoulder their bike up the muddy inclines. What goes up must come down and the course designers did not disappoint with three steep and twisting descents with said mud.

Both Gage and his teammate Lance Haidet (5th on the day) chose to ride the Vision Metron 40 SL Disc tubular and FSA AGX K-Force TLR wheels paired with SL-K cockpits. This combo made for a perfect balance of stiffness and lightweight needed for such a demanding course.

The FSA brand was featured prominently with a large 10x40 booth offering tech support for all riders, displaying our cyclocross focused products such as FSA AGX and Metron wheels, K-Force and SL-K cockpits, and WE RDB (Wireless Electronic Road Disc Brake) drive train.

In all, it was a great weekend for FSA, our athletes and teams and a special shout out to our new US National Cyclocross Champion Gage Hecht!
