Team Bulls has great ambitions at Absa Cape Epic

9 Mar 2020

THE “EPIC” JOURNEY IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!

8 days. 647 kilometres. 15 550 metres of vertical ascent. Rugged mountain dual tracks and rocky singletracks through pristine fynbos. Sandy farm road between manicured orchards. Bone-rattling descents off ancient mountain ranges. This is the 2020 Absa Cape Epic route, and WE are ready to face it together with our sponsored teams!

TEAM BULLS

Germany’s Karl Platt has started every Absa Cape Epic since its inception in 2004 and won five times – a record of victories. Austrian powerhouse Alban Lakata has twice finished second, and also bagged third, fourth, fifth and sixth over his 10 years of competing in the world’s premier mountain bike stage race. Team BULLS will this year also have a second team that has the potential to reach the top step of the podium and the third riding as support. Former winner Urs Huber of Switzerland – he won with Platt in 2016 – will be teaming up with the talented Simon Stiebjahn, who has finished third in the Absa Cape Epic. The support team, Team BULLS Youngsters, will be Martin Frey and Simon Schneller, both from Germany.

CST POSTNL BAFANG MTB RACING TEAM

Mariske Strauss of our sponsored team CST PostNL Bafang will be supported by the rider Candice Lill. They are the favourites for the overall win for the African jersey and maybe GC in general. In any case, it will also be an important test for # Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games for Mariske. By the way, the 1996 1st Olympic champion Bart Brentjens, founder of the team, will be supported by Abraão Azevedo, racing in master category.

EF EDUCATION FIRST PRO CYCLING

FSA road pro sponsored team EF Education First turned heads by encouraging its riders to take part in non-traditional road cycling events. In 2020, their Alternative Calendar heads to Africa as Lachlan Morton and Alex Howes team up to take on the Absa Cape Epic for a unique and suggestive experience.

The route for the seventeenth edition will challenge all and reward those who have come prepared with proven partnerships, technical skills, fitness and mental fortitude. Only the truly worthy will see their names etched into the Book of Legend!
