Three weeks of Spanish passion with Metron Wheels

The 74th edition of La Vuelta has finally started and is the final three-week Grand Tour of the year! This year’s Vuelta will take the riders over 3,290km of winding roads around Spain, Andorra and France, concluding in the Spanish capital of Madrid. Three teams are racing with the complete Metron wheelset range: World Tour team of EF Education First and the two Spanish Professional Continental teams, Euskadi-Murias and BH-Burgos.
Here is the range of wheel the riders will be using and what discipline they are best suited for:

Metron 30 SL

The superior Metron 30 SL tubeless-ready wheelset is now available in a disc brake version for a proven and reliable performance in the mountains. This wheel was developed in the wind tunnel and represents the best aero solution for a quick uphill push.

Metron 40 SL

Keeping with the trend of the previous editions, La Vuelta is the 3-weeks Grand Tour with made up of mostly climbing. This year the Spanish race offers eight mountain-top finishes: short, long, shallow and steep gradients. Thanks to their lightness, Metron 40 SL will have a fundamental role in the race, particularly with Rigoberto Uran and the other EF Education First Colombian climbers. Rigo has a great start, with a 4th place in stage 2 and top-three in the overall.

Metron 55 SL

Thanks to its lightness and aero profile (55mm depth rim), Metron 55 SL will mainly be featured on the flat and mixed stages, supporting the aggressive Spanish riders of Euskadi-Murias and BH-Burgos during the hunting stages. The current KOM leader, Angel Madrazo of BH-Burgos, has dominated the first short hills with this very fast wheelset.

Metron 81 SL

The Metron 81 SL is the fastest and most aerodynamic model in the line and is for the competitor who demands every watt and gram advantage, giving the athletes the competitive edge to win! With a Metron 81 SL front wheel, EF Education First was one of the fastest teams in the opening Team Time Trial, only 7” behind Astana’s winners.

Metron Disc

For the ultimate aerodynamic efficiency, a disc wheel is unbeatable. The Metron Disc is all about going fast but also able to slow down efficiently and effectively. Thanks to its optimised aero performance, it has been a winning “rear wheel” choice for EF Education First riders during the Team Time Trial.

Metron 3-Spoke

The brand new Metron 3 Spoke carbon wheel was built specifically for world-class road and track applications. It’s now available in both clincher/tubeless ready and tubular version, is an aerodynamic wheel, and presents a new attractive design and more lightness than its already light predecessor. It’s UCI approved on the basis of the ‘Approval protocol’ for wheels and it will be very useful during the Pau time trial (stage 10) after the first rest day. The route during the TT stage is one that favours the specialists: winding, with steep slopes, that requires aerodynamic and change of pace.
